Eclipse of the Heart
Rev. Michael Gott used the metaphor of an eclipse in the Science of Mind magazine--a metaphor that I also used in describing my experience in Riptide.
An experience of great trauma and painful loss blocks out our ability to feel joy and even believe that life can feel good ever again.
One of my clients, as she approaches the one year anniversary of her son's death, said she hasn't felt any joy since then--the hollow emptiness in her heart makes no room for joy. This eclipse of the heart, as Rev. Gott says, comes to pass, and not to stay.
"And if we are open and teachable, we are transformed by the night and step into the dawn renewed."
